Marathon Talk Episode 213 - Leanne Davies

This is part of my reviewing historic episodes of marathon talk 10 year after they were released, in part to give me something to think about with running and because I always enjoyed listening to them and 10 years was a long time ago so I can enjoy them again. 

It's only running. We must remember, especially as amateurs that it is only running and there is much more to life. Easy to say but can be hard to implement when you use it as such a driving force / purpose in your life. I dedicate so much time to researching and thinking about my training that I would struggle mentally if it were to be taken away from me. 

Daft - extra physical activity as punishment. Should be encouraged and enjoyed. Physical activity is a gift not a punishment. 

I agree with this, they discussed how in schools a lap round the field can be seen as a punishment. We should see physical activity as something to be enjoyed and loved and not something to traumatise people with. If you are forced to do something that is perceived as a punishment it is going to have a lasting impact on how you view that activity. 

Like the wind magazine - Going to look into getting a few copies as it looks interesting. 

Mo in Iten - giving up family time to be a pro must be tough but they had a good discussion about this. Combining this with point one is kind of one of my principles in a way, integrate life, running and family as much as possible. If you can find ways to integrate training with family life then you are golden. 

Rupp and the TUE stuff - doping and thyroid problems came up. So far as we are aware Rupp is and always was clean but that isn't to say they didn't blur the lines Should we blur the lines? Back to point 1 it is only running, that being said I am focused on health and wellbeing as well. Could biohacking and introducing supplements lead to a longer and healthier life? These are things unlikely to be banned for professional athletes but it does make you wonder whether any of the performance enhancing stuff helps health or hinders it at the expense of a few seconds? 

The training talk was about not sweating a bad week. I think the confident mind and beyond grit are great resources for this so won't go into details here. 

They then spoke to the founder of https://www.runmummyrun.co.uk/, this seems like a great initiative but not something worth me going into here.
