An Introduction to Me

Hi I am Gary. I am starting this blog / website in order to try and help more people and in the long run maybe make some money out of running coach as I do love the sport. As this blog and website builds up I imagine this post will either be updated or become obsolete. A quick summary of my running time line as an adult, something I am putting together for a YouTube Video anyway!!!

  1. As a child I ran a bit in the cross country team when I was 11, this is nothing like the US system and although I was ok I was far from a great runner.
  2. As a young adult I became obese and was generally around 18 stone as a base line.
  3. I developed a foot condition called Ledderhose disease which meant I used a walking stick for a few years until I was successfully treated, touch wood it is in remission.
  4. In 2013 I try parkrun with times of around 33 to 29 minutes, if I remember correctly the 29 minutes was an error with results processing and I never actually ran sub 30.
  5. End of 2014 I go low carb and by the end of 2015 run sub 20, more than I dreamt!
  6. 2016 I run low 19 at parkrun, 1:35 in my first half and 1:30:10 in my second.
  7. 2017 I attempt marathon training get injured and basically miss most of the year and 2018.
  8. Late 2018 and into 2019 I use barefoot shoes and am injury free! Despite staying low carb due to nuts, cream and low carb snacks my weight still fluctuates higher than I would like but I get back under 21 through using Intermittent Fasting.
  9. 2020 / 2021 - Lockdowns for a lot of it.
  10. Easter 2021 I start the Carnivore diet and my weight comes down and my strength goes up. I get my first sub 20 in 5 years. I start more strength work and look into more related training.
  11. In 2022 - I keep feeling awesome on carnivore and running consistently. For speed I start using Altra's to have some cushioning, I break 19 minutes at the end of the summer and run 18:17, this was very much an outlier.
  12. I do more training, more mental training and do over 2500 miles in the year. I get under 18 minutes early in the year, running sub 38 for 10k and 1:25 in a tough half marathon. On Christmas day I run 17:39... to be continued.

Being Given the all Clear

Barefoot Britain by Anna McNuff

I have recently finished this audiobook and it was a good listen. I won't go into my usual level of detail as I didn't learn much from this to share on a running coaching site. Was it a good listen? Yes, Was it about running? Mostly. Was there any coaching tips? Not really. Advice from it? Have a good time, listen to your body and preserver.
